This paper presents a linguo-cultural analysis of "sacrifice" which is an important concept both in Chinese and Russian value systems. Despite the similarity of their lexical meanings, the analysis comparing this concept between two languages reveals the discrepancies of the following aspects of an act or a spirit of sacrifice: its social and cultural background, motivation, purpose, the definitions for the role of a victim, and the moral values behind the behavior. This comparative analysis as a whole explores the features of worldview reflected in the above-mentioned languages. |
